Don't get me wrong: not all of the work ahead will be exciting...
Forced social media posting, for example, may not entice you every single day. But if you have passion for the brand you've created, then you can convince yourself to show up on your difficult days because you appreciate how those tedious tasks serve a greater purpose for a thing you love.
Personally, I've started several online businesses that I didn't ultimately have a passion for and that sang more true than ever when it came time for me to do the little, consistent tasks that make an online venture successful. Because my passion wasn't aligned with the concepts, they never did take off.
Nowadays, I only start online businesses that I'm passionate about and I make sure to set expectations for those businesses that reasonably push me toward personal growth.
If money is your motivator, consider how you'd feel if money weren't part of the equation...
This is an important question because a CAKE QUEEN does not strive to "profit" from their audience; a CAKE QUEEN strives to help their audience and if money is all you really care about, there's a good chance you'll pull some immoral business tactics to increase your ROI margin.
Consider all the corporations of the world that only care about profit. Consider how many products are dangerous, unhealthy, or toxic amongst humanity. Consider how you've felt each time you learned that a company didn't really care about their consumers as much as they cared about their profit margins.
All of that nonsense is not the CAKE QUEEN way, . The CAKE QUEEN way is to lead with compassion and absolute love with all of your business endeavors. So find the motivators that lie outside of financial necessity and, if you're struggling with that, consider choosing another business concept to pursue; one that sparks more pleasure out of you than mere money.
Your fears are survival instincts, but that doesn't mean they ought be followed...
The mind is a tool largely used for survival. It sends out signals on a regular basis for what your body should and should not do to stay alive. If you're experiencing fear or second-guessing or doubt, that's natural. The brain does not take kindly to unknown adventures unless persistently trained to respond otherwise.
If you can't think of any fears you have for this new business endeavor, fantastic!!!
However, if you do have fears they're probably warranted and reasonable.
Consider my fear of social media: nobody likes unnecessary judgement and putting myself out into a public arena - all for the sake of helping others, mind you - opens me up to all sorts of feedback, both positive and negative.
But knowing that fear helps me counteract it with positive affirmations that keep me grounded, focused, and brave.
Your brain is like the electricity wired into your house: it can be rerouted whenever you so choose, but it'll take time and skill to do so.
Just because you call your fear by a name, doesn't mean you've fixed the issue.
But continuing to call it out, counteract it with positivity, and dedicate yourself to showing up regardless of it, will all serve to correct the issue over time.
On top of that, seeing your reality shift into a positive perspective (i.e. showing up to social media everyday and seeing positive responses instead of negative ones) will help further reinforce these new synaptic responses to accept this new logic in place of your previous fear response.
LEARN TO DATE YOUR BUSINESS
I'll be real with you: sometimes this work is going to get difficult, no matter how much you love your business concept.
But that doesn't mean you can't find ways to get back to the roots and enjoy yourself through the challenges!
Do you need days planned just for personal crafting time?
Are you putting too much financial pressure on yourself and not enough pressure on having fun?
What tasks can you focus on that bring you happiness rather than stress?
It's important to remember that starting an online business can be a lifelong endeavor, so if things get too intense at any point during CAKE QUEEN, take a step back. Recharge your fun-cells. And then come back invigorated!
WHAT DO YOU DREAD HAVING TO DO?
From copywriting to building the website, social media marketing to creating products, all of this should be approached through a lens of EXCITEMENT.
If you find yourself overwhelmed or dreading the process or afraid no one will like the outcome, you've overstretched into expectation-mode and lost touch with why you're doing this: TO CREATE A FUN LIFESTYLE BUSINESS TO SUPPORT YOU FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
That up there? That's a lifelong project, not a profits-only business model. You could spend a year not making a dime and feel content because, ultimately, you're working in a direction you love for yourself.
So if you find yourself overwhelmed or dreading the work ahead consider:
Do you have out of whack expectations?
What is fun about the process you're dreading?
Are the things you're dreading potential indicators that you don't like your brand?
NOTE: This is the perfect place in CAKE QUEEN to take your first draft back to the drawing board if you don't like the business concept you've created. No shame! I've done it myself a few times.
WHAT ARE YOUR MAJOR GOALS?
Money isn't everything and it certainly isn't the biggest motivator here at CAKE QUEEN. Over here, we're all about enjoying a pleasurable life and finding ways to financially sustain it along the way!
But that means knowing how to set goals that meet other interests outside of money.
Do you want your brand or you to win awards?
Is this business a step to you getting certified in something special?
Will this business inevitably help you find ways to travel the world more?
FOR EXAMPLE: For RW.com, some of my goals are to travel the world, become a published author, help 1,000 people transform their lives for the positive, learn new and exciting ways to continue reconstructing my lifestyle for the purest awesome-sauce I can conjure, learn three languages, go vegan, and continue to hone my skills as an online business magician.
